Malaria in Panama

Four outbreaks of malaria have been reported this year in Kuna Yala, Panamá Este, Ngãbe Buglé and Darién. A total of 1,386 cases of this infection have been registered (a slight increase compared to the same time period last year).

Advice

All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
