Malaria infections increase rapidly in Davao del Sur Province, Philippines

Malaria infections appear to be spreading quickly in Davao del Sur. For example, in Jose Abad Santos town in Digos, the number of cases of malaria rose from 40 to 195 in just 2 weeks. Previously, malaria was not common in this area.

Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
