Measles reported from many countries

Sporadic cases, deaths and outbreaks of measles are being reported by the following countries (areas):

Canada - Alberta (28 confirmed cases and 11 for the Edmonton zone)

USA - cases reported from 18 states and New York City. Most cases were reported from Ohio (138), California (60), and New York City (26), but also Pennsylvania (Pittsburg)

Somalia - Afmadow (72 people, 50 of them children under the age of 5)

India - Delhi (over 4,500 suspected measles cases in past 3 months)

Kazakhstan - Shymkent (40 cases from Astana)

Pakistan - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (3 deaths in children)

Ukraine - Kharkov

Russia - Dagestan (more than 500 cases of measles reported in Dagestan so far this year)

Micronesia - Kosrae Island (2 cases)

Outbreaks of measles can occur frequently anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
