Ongoing Civil Unrest and Travel Disruption Over Amended Citizenship Bill - India

Due to the civil unrest over the amended Citizenship Act, at least 106 passenger trains were either cancelled or short terminated by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). At Guwahati Airport, some travellers cannot get transportation into the city.

Students and teachers at the Aligarh Muslim University held protests on campus against the act, and internet services have been blocked in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh as a precautionary measure. In the Sealdah division in West Bengal, Eastern Railway train services were interrupted when protesters blocked tracks in several locations.

Students in Arunachal Pradesh boycotted exams on Friday and protested in the streets in cities across the state. In New Delhi, there were reports of clashes between students and police near the Jamia Millia Islamia University as they began to march toward Parliament.

Advice

The civil unrest is continuing. Avoid any area of large public gatherings or protests due to the risk of violence. Consider postponing travel to these areas until the situation normalizes.
