Potential for violence leading up to June 7 elections in Mexico

On a road that links the beach resorts of Acapulco and Zinhuatanejo, gunmen shot at a car carrying a political candidate. When the car occupants identified themselves, the gunmen apologized for mistaking them for another target. Also in April, another candidate was surrounded by 20 armed men who prevented him from reaching the town of Chilapa.

Advice

Travellers should be aware of political unrest and potential for violence leading up to June 7 elections. Exercise caution and remain in resort areas if possible.
