Protest against increase in bus fare becomes violent in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

People protesting a 10 cent increase in the bus fare in Rio de Janeiro invaded the train station. The demonstrators threw rocks and the police used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. At least 1 person was seriously injured. Travellers should avoid all public and political gatherings since they may become violent without notice.
