Security alert for Tunis, Tunisia

After receiving intelligence information, Tunisian authorities warned of possible attacks in Tunis, the capital, with car bombs or explosive belts. In March, gunmen killed 21 tourists at the Bardo Museum in Tunis and in June, killed 38 foreigners at a Sousse beach hotel. Tunisia is still in a state of emergency following these two attacks.

Advice

Traffic has been banned in parts of Tunis. Authorities have closed off access to the main Avenue Habib Bourguiba in the center of the city from 06:00 (6 am) on September 9 to 17:00 (5 pm) on September 14. Expect other roads to be closed with short notice. Also expect increased security activities. Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. At this time, travellers may want to avoid areas with crowds of people, government and security locations, and places frequented by foreigners.
