Sporadic cases of polio continue to occur in multiple countries

Polio cases continue to occur sporadically in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Chad, and China. In the latter country, the introduction of polio virus from neighboring Pakistan led to a major outbreak involving 10 cases in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Travellers to countries where polio occurs should ensure that their childhood vaccinations, including polio, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
