Suicide bombings south of Baghdad, Iraq

On June 9, 2017, two suicide bombings targeting civilians occurred Iraq south of Baghdad. The first hit a market in the town of Musayyib, killing at least 22 people and injuring dozens. Another attack happened several hours later in the city of Karbala at a Shiite shrine.

Iraq is a country at high risk for terrorist attacks. Often the attacks occur in predominately Shiite areas. Many countries advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Iraq due to the unstable security and safety situation.
