Update on landslides in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has appealed for urgent help in dealing with the aftermath of the floods and mudslides on Monday. More than 300 bodies have been recovered, and at least 600 people are missing. The worst-hit area was the Regent area of Freetown, but massive flooding also occurred in other areas of Freetown. The country has begun seven days of mourning for the victims.

Advice

Avoid travel in these areas at this time. The major flooding and mudslides have made the area unstable, and there is the risk of a second landslide. There is damage to infrastructure and services. There are possible risks of outbreaks of waterborne diseases, such as diarrhea, typhoid and cholera.
