The attempted coup in Turkey is now over. There have been many reports of gunfire and explosions and large-scale military deployment and activities occurring in Turkey. A state of martial law is in effect. The situation is reported to be calmer, but mass arrests are being made, and the security situation is unpredictable and volatile.

If you are presently in Turkey, avoid public places, crowds and any demonstrations. Although there is no specific threat to foreigners, stay indoors in a safe place at this time. Contact your country’s embassy for any specific instructions.
