US Embassy in Niger Issues Security Alert

According to the US Embassy in Niger, on Tuesday 14 January, several unexploded missiles were discovered on the outskirts of Niamey near the village of Kongou Gorou.  The US Embassy is aware of possible threats against Nigerian government sites and also buildings or other locations that are frequented by Westerners.

Advice

Many countries advise citizens to avoid all travel to Niger due to the dangerous safety and security situation. If in Niger, the US Embassy advises limiting unnecessary movements after dark and to avoid travel outside of the Niamey péage (toll checkpoint).
