Health authorities continue to examine local mosquitoes and report isolations of the virus that causes West Nile Fever. The latest places where the virus has been found include:

  • Buffalo Grove, Lake County, IL
  • East Haven, Groton and Westbrook, CT
  • North Fork, Delta County, CO
  • Chatsworth, CA

Human cases of West Nile fever have been confirmed in the following areas:

  • South Holland, Cook County, IL
  • DeKalb County, GA
  • Orange County, CA

Additionally, one death from West Nile fever was reported in Macomb County, MI, and another death in Elkhart County, IL is reported to be associated with West Nile fever.

Travellers should be aware that the West Nile virus is fairly widespread in the USA. To avoid exposure to the virus, travellers should take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
