Public Health authorities have declared an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever following the detection of 5 infected people in the prefecture of Lim-Pendé,
in Ngaoundaye. One of the patients has died from this infection.

Human infections result from direct or indirect contact with the blood or organs of infected animals during slaughtering or butchering, assisting with animal births, conducting veterinary procedures, or from the disposal of carcasses or fetuses. Humans may also become infected with Rift Valley Fever by ingesting the unpasteurized or uncooked milk of infected animals. Infections have also resulted from the bites of infected mosquitoes and blood-feeding flies. Travellers in areas where there is active transmission of this virus should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Avoid contact with sick animals.
