Two Spanish men arrested in The Gambia for making homosexual advances

According to reports, two Spanish men have been arrested in The Gambia for allegedly making homosexual advances to taxi drivers.

Travellers should be aware that homosexual acts are illegal in this country, and those convicted could face prison terms up to 14 years. Private citizens have the power to make arrests for offences that are “against the order of nature” according to the Gambian Criminal Code. In November 2014, the Gambian president threatened to behead gay people, as well as promising “stricter laws than Iran” against homosexuality.
