Dengue fever continues in Madeira (update)

Health officials have reported increases in the number of cases of dengue fever in the current outbreak in Madeira. So far, there have been 52 laboratory confirmed cases of dengue fever and 404 probable cases, nearly double the previous reports. At least 40 people have been hospitalised. No deaths have been reported. At least 4 travellers from the United Kingdom, France, and Sweden acquired dengue fever while travelling in Madeira. Authorities expect additional cases in the coming weeks.

Travellers to Madeira can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
