So far, there are 18 confirmed cases of a fungus infection called blastomycosis associated with recreational activities at the Little Wolf River near New London, in Waupaca County, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Division of Public Health advises the public who visited the Little Wolf River since Memorial Day weekend (23-25 May 2015) that they may have been exposed to the fungus that causes blastomycosis.

Travellers who visited this area from the last week in May through July, may have been exposed. This lung infection has a long period of time from exposure until illness begins, 2 to 15 weeks. Blastomycosis can resemble flu with symptoms that include cough, fever, chills, muscle aches, joint pain or chest pain. Travellers who visited this area and develop respiratory symptoms should seek medical care as soon as possible.
