COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Colombia (12 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents can enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreign travellers can enter.

Test certificate required?

  • No

  • For air travel into Colombia, a negative PCR test result is no longer required.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Travellers will be followed up by their insurer, the Ministry of Health or through the CCNR National Tracking Contact Center to ensure their well-being.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • Arrivals must complete a Check-Mig immigration form. The ‘Check-Mig’ form can be found here.

Recommended Border App

  • Yes

  • Travellers must comply with follow-up health checks via the CoronApp mobile app.

Airline restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Commercial flights are now operating to and from Colombia on a limited number of routes

  • Domestic flights are operating.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Entry to Colombia by air is permitted.

  • Colombia’s sea borders reopened on 1 December 2020. Land and river borders will remain closed until 16 January.

  • Authorities closed the land and river borders with Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela until 16 January 2021, except for cargo and merchandise transport.

  • Cruise ships are not allowed to dock at Colombian ports.

Curfew restrictions

  • Moderate

  • A state of health emergency has been extended until 28 February 2021.

  • A night curfew from 00:00 to 04:00 (local time) is in effect in Santa Marta, Magdalena department until 16 January 2021.

  • In Barranquilla, Atlántico department, a night curfew is in effect from 23:00 to 06:00 (local time) until 16 January 2021.

  • In the Santander department, a night curfew is in effect from 23:00 to 05:00 (local time) until 28 February 2021.

  • In Cartagena, Bolivar department, a night curfew and a dry law have been imposed from 21:00 to 05:00 (local time) until 16 December.

  • A night curfew from 00:00 until 06:00 (local time) will run until 3 January 2021 in East, Southwest, West, North, Northeast, Bajo Cauca, and Magdalena Medio in Antioquia department.

  • Authorities imposed a curfew from 23:00 until 06:00 (local time) for minors and visitors in Sabaneta in Aburrá Valley of the Antioquia department until 11 January 2021.

  • A night curfew for minors from 00:00 until 06:00 (local time) is in effect in La Estrella municipality in Antioquia Department until 11 January.

  • Colombia will remain under a national sanitation emergency until 28 February 2021.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 people.

  • Businesses, including industrial sectors, laundries, stationery stores, and bookshops, are allowed to reopen subject to compliance with social distancing measures.

  • Construction and manufacturing sectors have resumed work under strict health protocols.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Masks are required.

  • Public transport is operating and private cars are allowed. In private vehicles, there will be no limit on the number of passengers as long as social distancing measures are maintained.

  • Some cities or regions may impose travel restrictions with short notice.

  • In Gran Malecón del Río, Barranquilla, mobility restrictions have been imposed from 22:00 until 05:00 (local time) Monday through Thursday, and from 00:00 until 05:00 (local time) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Shops have been allowed to reopen subject to compliance with social distancing measures.

  • In Cartagena, Bolivar department, all establishments must close by 20:00 (local time).

  • Yes

  • Restaurants and food outlets have reopened with safety measures.

  • Until 16 January 2021, in Santa Marta, Magdalena department, restaurants are ordered to close by 22:00 (local time).

  • In Cartagena, Bolivar department, restaurants must close by 20:00 (local time).

Bars and cafes open?

  • No

  • Bars and discos are closed.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Beaches are accessible with hygiene and social distancing norms.

Museums and heritage sites open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Visiting museums are allowed, but restrictions may vary regionally.

Personal care services open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Accessing hairdressers and barbers are allowed, but restrictions may vary regionally.

Places of worship open?

  • Yes

  • Churches can resume with safety protocols.

Events allowed?

  • No with exceptions

  • Large gatherings of over 50 people are prohibited.

  • Weddings are allowed with limited people and social distancing norms.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are mandatory in crowded places, on public transportation, and in stores. Some regions may require face masks to be worn at all times in public.

Other Restrictions

  • The reopening of gambling facilities such as casinos, betting shops, and bingo has been further delayed.

  • Schools, colleges, and various other educational institutions will remain closed until further notice.

  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in open spaces.
